The First Disciples of Jesus
From this passage of scripture, we learn that
John the Baptist had released two of his disciples over to Jesus. One was Andrew; the other is not mentioned by name. Andrew then found his brother Peter whom Jesus renamed Cephas, meaning “stone.” These three were the first fruits of Jesus’ disciples.
We learn that Jesus would travel to Galilee and find Philip who in turn would find Nathanael. While John identified Jesus as “The Lamb of God which taketh away the sin of the world;” Philip described him as “The one of whom Moses in the law, and also the prophets, wrote.” Andrew, on the other hand, not only was he Jesus’ first disciple, he was the first to declare him as “The Messiah.”
The first two disciples wanted to see where Jesus was staying and without hesitation, Jesus invited them to his abode.
